(DDN 101 Project)For the Amazing Animals Assignment for Design Thinking, I knew I had to use my favorite animal for the muse! The duck is very round and fits nicely into a square format, which was important for this project. Then we had to make an Encyclopedic Drawing, A Logo Design, A Gesture Drawing and A Transformation Drawing, all based on the initial duck picture here.
This is my finished Encyclopedic Drawing that I cleaned up with Photoshop! One thing that was important to me was to make sure all my dark values wouldn't appear like harsh coloring-book outlines.
For my Logo Design I wanted to include some knockouts to create more contrast. Any extra bit of contrast would help my logo stand out and be identified from far away as well as close up.
The main goal I had for the Gesture Drawing was to keep the duck feeling very shape-based and to paint the most basic lines and details to capture the essence.
When staring at this duck long enough I had begun to see the large and scary Godzilla! So with the upright postion the duck was already in, I decided to add a Godzilla tail with spikes and a pillar of fire shooting out of its mouth. These elements as well as the crosshatching in the webbed feet hopefully give it that "comic book" style I wanted it to convey.
